CU South Denver renovations complete; classes open for fall semester

By Elizabeth Wood West

Fall classes have begun for the University of Colorado South Denver (CU South Denver) and Denver/Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Denver/Anschutz) in their new facilities at The Wildlife Experience – a wildlife art/natural history museum and cultural center located one mile east of I-25 at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Peoria Street in Parker.

Renovations of the former second floor gallery space have been completed; the space now features new classrooms, a computer lab, and a student resource center. The lower level renovations are also finished, transforming the area into a $500,000 nursing simulation lab.

According to CU South Denver representatives, CU Denver/Anschutz saw close to a 25 percent increase in enrollment because of the new location and facilities.

CU South Denver Executive Director Tony Smith said, “It’s exciting to see how much we’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time. Just four months ago, there was a reptile exhibit in the upstairs gallery!  Now, it’s been completely renovated, and the classrooms and computer lab are already filled with students.”

Fall semester classes include education and counseling, engineering, political science and public policy, nursing, business, and public health. University of Colorado’s Boulder and Colorado Springs campuses are expected to offer courses at the CU South Denver location in the future.
