Last August, we introduced our readers to the Ihme family and told the story of their annual golf tournament benefiting Children’s Hospital Colorado. Castle Pines resident Steve Ihme lost his brother Rich to leukemia in 1985, and every year since 2003 he and his family have hosted this event in his honor.
Fast-forward eight months and the family is now gearing up for this year’s tournament, planned for Friday, June 13, at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. This year, the family is setting their sights on raising the most ever – $20,000. Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $118,000 collectively.
The tournament has become a tradition among friends and family and they are eager to welcome more players and sponsors to join the fun for a great cause. Hole sponsors ($400), goody bag sponsors (i.e. products, coupons, samples) and silent auction donations (i.e. sports memorabilia, gift certificates, vacations) are all greatly appreciated.
Players can join the action for $150 per player or a group can sponsor a hole and play as a foursome for $1,000. After play, enjoy late lunch/early dinner, a silent auction, and an awards ceremony for first, second and third place, as well as closest to the pin and longest drive for both men and women. There will also be a putting contest.
“We are so fortunate to have the dedication of community partners like the Ihme Family. The funds collected through their golf tournament will support our mission of providing all children a chance at a healthier childhood. The Ihme Family fundraising has been designated to our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and will certainly make a difference in the lives of patients and their families in a challenging time,” said Leslie Boersma, special events coordinator for Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation.
“It will be a good time – golf on a Friday and even better, one hundred percent of the profits go to Children’s Colorado,” said Ihme.
