On July 18, the Douglas County Libraries (DCL) honored 101 dedicated volunteers with the President’s Volunteer Service Awards. Among those honored were six Castle Pines residents. The Castle Pines recipients were Morgan Bley, Beverly Byrd, Jim Clements, Loralee Kaschinske, Karlee Suhanyi and Roger Williams. In addition, the Douglas County Libraries Board of Trustees qualified for a group bronze award.

These national awards were organized under the George W. Bush administration by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. The awards honor those who, by their commitment, inspire others to engage in volunteerism.

“These volunteers work tirelessly in various capacities throughout our seven library branches,” noted Ali Ayres, the district’s volunteer services supervisor. From helping to shelve materials, reading stories to children at Douglas County daycare facilities, tutoring students with English as a second language, telling stories to children at Douglas County schools, assisting with library events, posting book reviews, polishing discs, and coordinating The Second Chapter used bookstores, they are an amazing group of dedicated people,” she stated.

“Their volunteerism strengthens our nation as a whole and teaches invaluable lessons to today’s youth who will one day lead our country,” stated Ayres. “Together, these 101 award-recipient volunteers contributed 14,000 hours of DCL’s total 40,000 volunteer hours for 2013.”
