Hundreds Run in Buffalo Stampede

The inaugural Buffalo Stampede to support Timber Trail and Buffalo Ridge Elementary Schools attracted more than 530 runners on Saturday, November 13.

Two races, a 1-Mile and a 5K, wound through the streets of HOA #1 and HOA #2 beginning at about 9 a.m. Although the event was held under gray skies, the nip in the air didn’t wipe the smiles from the faces of the families enjoying the camaraderie of a morning run, jog, or stroll with neighbors.

Before the races began, participants enjoyed the warm-up events held in the Buffalo Ridge gym. They grooved to the moves and music of Soul Motion, a dance group from Highlands Ranch. Others had their faces painted or received tattoos, thanks to the volunteer efforts of local junior and senior high schoolers.

Then it was time to get rolling with the help of emcee Katie Trexler, CPN resident and anchor for Channel 7. Before all the runners and walkers were done, the sun had peeked out and warmed up even those who were struggling a little on the hills.

Event Chair Lesia Riehl reported that about $9,000 was raised to support Specials classes (music, technology, health and fitness) at the two schools. Sixty percent of the registrants represented Buffalo Ridge Elementary, and 40 percent represented Timber Trail Elementary.

More than 43 local business helped sponsor the event. The organizers would like to acknowledge Safeway, the Presenting Sponsor who donated approximately $4,000 in goods.
Also, thanks to the Diamond Sponsors: The Castle Pines North Metropolitan District; Linda Knight, Broker Associate with Remax Masters; IREA; Castle Pines Orthodontics; Perry Street Pediatrics and Windoor Exteriors.

The committee members consisted of a group of dedicated moms who volunteered many, many hours pulling together the details of the event. They included, in alphabetical order: Suzanne Bac; Diane Gottsch; Kristi Hermann; Sandy Koerner; Lesia Rehl; Stacie Sneider; Sara Tibby and Stacia Wilkins.

“It will definitely happen again next year,” Lesia said of the Stampede. “We got lots of good, positive feedback. There was a high interest among parents as well as the students,” she added.

Race results will be available on the Buffalo Ridge website at” www.dcsdk12.org/elementary/bre, beginning in December.
