Construction of New Skateboard Park Underway

The Castle Pines North Metro District recently began construction of a new skateboard park located north of the main parking area at Coyote Ridge Park.

According to Metro District Parks and Open Space Manager Charlie Fagan, “Skateboarding is one of the top three most requested park needs. It gives kids and adults a controlled, safe environment to enjoy skateboarding and gets them off sidewalks and parking lots.”

The skateboard park will not be lighted, but can be used during normal park hours from dawn until dusk. The skateboard park will also feature a 22-car parking lot, which can also provide additional parking for events at Coyote Ridge Park.

The skateboard park was designed to be used by beginners and experts alike. The above-ground 80-foot-by-100-foot concrete skateboard area will have eight unique skateboarding features including: a 15-foot round grind rail, a 15-foot square grind rail, a five-foot quarter pipe, a four-foot wedge, a four-foot transfer box, a three-and-a-half foot fun box, and a four-and-a-half foot half pipe with an attached quarter pipe.

“A skateboard park is certainly a facet of recreation that we have a need for in our community and we were able to make it available,” said Fagan.

The approximate cost of the project is $170,000. The estimated date of completion for the new park is April, 2006.
