Q: If the Parks Authority moves forward with plans to build a new park on Lagae Ranch, will the City own and maintain the park?
How much money is set aside in the budget for this new park and what happened to Castle View Park?
The Parks Authority board has been trying to determine which park is best for CPN during the past year. The board has determined that at this time, the ideal location for a new park in Castle Pines North (CPN) is on the Lagae Ranch development (behind King Soopers and adjacent to HOA1.) Castle View Park was originally set to be built in the open space area next to the CPN Community Center (next to Castle Pines Parkway), directly under the power line corridor.
CPN residents contribute $151.20 per year to the Castle Pines Parks Authority as part of their annual dues to the CPN Master Association. With these dues, along with developer fees, the Parks Authority currently has approximately $3.7 million set aside for future park construction.
While the Parks Authority oversees the construction of new parks, it does not own or maintain any parks or open space. Currently, the CPN Metro District owns and maintains all three parks within the City including: The Retreat Park, Coyote Ridge Park, and Daniel’s Gate Park.
On May 19, the Metro District Board of Directors agreed at their monthly board meeting to submit a letter to the City Council, asking for permission to own and maintain any future parks built in the new City. City Councilperson Ron Clark from Ward 3 spoke at the meeting regarding the Lagae Park. “I can only speak for myself and not the Council, but I completely endorse the Metro District’s operation and ownership of the park, but to date no action has been taken by the City Council,” said Clark. As of press time, the City Council had not received a letter from the District and no decisions had been made.
Future meetings regarding park plans will be announced in community e-mail alerts. Send questions to Contact by email .
