Xcel Pole Debate Continues

by Lisa Crockett

A task force of Castle Pines North (CPN) citizens continues to negotiate with Xcel Energy regarding the installation of new poles near Coyote Ridge Park. The tallest pole, which stands a towering 180 feet and sits atop a hill, drew complaints from all parts of CPN. The pole will come down sometime late this year or early next year and will be replaced by a 110-foot pole.

A second pole, which stood at 165 feet, has already come down and will eventually be replaced by a pole no higher than 110 feet. The task force has now turned its attention to four additional 175-foot poles, which are going to be placed just beyond the ridge were the existing poles now stand.

“We felt like what they wanted was still too high,” said CPN Ward 1 City Council Member Jennifer Havercroft, who serves as the City Council liaison to the citizen’s task force.

The task force is working to see if it can get those additional poles lowered. As of press time, Xcel had not ordered any new poles.
