IREA

Dear IREA Castle Pines North Member:

As the IREA Board member representing customers in Castle Pines North, I am pleased that the City and IREA’s staff were able to negotiate a mutually agreeable franchise agreement. We look forward to working with Town officials on planning, installation of electric facilities, addressing power supply, and serving the needs of each current and new IREA customer within the City. You may be assured that although the Association’s primary objective is to provide the best possible service at the lowest possible cost, we also are very concerned about our impact on communities.

Since Castle Pines North receives service primarily through underground distribution facilities, you will be interested to know that last year we made a significant financial commitment for a special crew and equipment dedicated to testing and replacing underground cable. This enables us to replace wornout or defective cable before it causes an outage. Castle Pines North is one of IREA’s newer service areas, so we should not have a problem with worn‑out cable for some time. However, dig‑ins damage underground lines when subdivisions are being built, which causes the cable to fail long before the cable is worn‑out. IREA decided that its commitment to improve its service warranted investment in a crew and equipment capable of identifying and correcting problems before they cause significant outages.

We move our crew into an area and start testing as soon as we receive a few complaints of blinks and minor outages. If you experience or learn of problems before we start testing cable in the area, our Operations Department, at 303-688-3100, ext. 250, is available and should be contacted.

We also have taken steps to minimize disturbance and inconvenience when problems are found. The Association uses a flow mole process to replace underground cable whenever possible. That process allows us to replace defective cable underground, without disturbing above‑ground landscaping.

I look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship between the City and IREA.

Sincerely,

INTERMOUNTAIN RURAL ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION
