American Academy Charter School to Host Ribbon Cutting Celebration at New Facility

American Academy, a K-8 public charter school in Douglas County, will host an official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its new 83,000 square foot facility on Friday, September 18, at 4:00 p.m.

The event will be held at the new six-acre school site located off Lagae Road and Mira Vista Lane in the City of Castle Pines North.

The school, originally founded by local Castle Pines North parents in 2005, is set to open its doors on Monday, September 21. The school will be home to more than 820 students making it the largest charter school in Douglas County.

The new state-of-the-art facility features 33 classrooms, a library, three computer labs, three science labs, two music rooms, two art rooms, a gym, 2,800 square feet of administrative space and two special education rooms and was designed by Hutton Architecture Studios. The school also features two new play grounds which were funded and built by hundreds of parent volunteers of the school. Construction of the project was managed by InLine Management. The new school was built, under budget, in only nine months by Haselden Construction.

Organized events of the full day ribbon cutting celebration include:

9:30 a.m. “Run for Education” 5K walk/run;
11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. PTO school carnival
12 p.m. Cornerstone ceremony presented by the Castle Rock Masons
4 p.m. Official ribbon cutting ceremony
4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. New facility tour

Previously located in a temporary facility in Lone Tree for four years, American Academy is a Core Knowledge public charter school with a “STEM” (science, math, engineering and technology) emphasis.
