New law prohibits use of cell phones while driving

House Bill 1094, which goes into effect December 1, 2009. prohibits drivers under the age of eighteen years from using wireless telephone for talking, listening, or texting while driving a motor vehicle. The new law also prohibits drivers eighteen and older from using a wireless telephone for texting or other manual data entry or transmission while driving a motor vehicle. The violation is a class A traffic infraction. There is an emergency exception to this law if the driver needs to contact public safety personnel during an emergency.
