State of the city addressed at CP Chamber

by Lane Roberts

On Thursday, March 5, the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce hosted its first membership meeting at The Ridge in Castle Pines North (CPN.)

Don Bobeda, chairman for the Chamber, gave the introductions and welcomed more than 60 businesses in attendance. Dr. Jason Ortman of Castle Pines Eye Care sponsored the event..

Guest speaker, City Manager Alan Lanning, presented a brief “state of the city” address to Chamber members. According to Lanning, CH2M HILL is working to put systems in place to help CPN be a successful city.

“Revenue streams are extremely limited,” said Lanning. He noted that running a city of 10,000 on less than $3 million is “pretty slim.” “We continue to analyze finances; it is a constant vigilance for us.”

When asked if the city can expect new taxes, Lanning reminded that in Colorado taxes cannot be added without vote of the people. “I have no indication of the council going that way,” he said. “We are trying desperately to operate under that framework.”

Lanning said another focus of the city is to bring in new businesses to expand the revenue base. Despite the limited revenue, Lanning said the city does not expect to cutback services. “We will continue to operate without additional taxation.”

Following the presentation, Bobeda presented information to chamber members regarding the efforts to bring a library to CPN. During the meeting chamber members pledged more than $3,000 for the new facility. CPN resident Tori Willis matched all pledges.
