CPN council passes ballot question to change city name

by Elizabeth Wood West

The City of Castle Pines North may be changing its name this November. City council has drafted and approved a ballot question asking whether Castle Pines North (CPN) residents would like to change the city’s name to “The City of Castle Pines.”

According to Councilperson Doug Gilbert, the idea of naming the city “Castle Pines” is nothing new and has been a topic of discussion with current and former council members for some time.

Editors note: “North” was included in the name on city’s original filing for incorporation because of Castle Pines Village’s simultaneous filing for incorporation using the name “Castle Pines.” Not competing for the same name presumably avoided an extensive and expensive legal process.

Councilperson Maureen Shul added, “The name change is only dropping the word ‘North’ from our name. The actual ballot question will be as simple as ‘Are you in favor of changing the legal name from the City of Castle Pines North to the City of Castle Pines?’” Council approved the ballot language at the August 24 council meeting.

All citizens who are registered voters and who reside in the geographic boundaries of the city of Castle Pines North will be eligible to vote on this issue in the November election.
