There is a new and exciting reason to visit historic downtown Castle Rock. The Courtyard Gallery, located at 333-A Perry Street in Castle Rock, recently opened its doors for business. The new art gallery features works by a variety of gifted Colorado artists, including oil and acrylic paintings, photography, art glass, jewelry, and sculpture. Well-known local sculptor, Rhonda H. Vickers, has several of her limited edition bronzes on exhibit and available for purchase (see article next page).

The gallery’s director, Diana Barajon Cole, is enthusiastic about what she hopes the gallery will bring to Castle Rock. “I want Castle Rock to be an exciting and sophisticated place for people to come for fine art instead of traveling to Santa Fe; a place to become interested in and have fun with good art,” Cole explained.

Italian-born Cole was educated in Switzerland and England, holds a foreign language degree, and is fluent in four languages. She credits her father with teaching her about painting and photography when she was little adding, “My father was an absolutely superb photographer and great painter.”

Cole has been doing fine arts photography for more than 30 years, and has developed a keen and well-traveled eye for subject matter. Her photographs are colorful and stunning in detail, capturing the beauty of nature and interesting locales. Many of Cole’s photographs are on display and available for purchase at the gallery.

As art pieces are sold, Cole will be regularly replacing them with new artwork. She is planning to bring in western art pieces in the near future. The artwork ranges in price from less than one hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. The average price point for most pieces is below $1,000.

Cole’s unique plans for the gallery will also include offering an annual membership. For $30 per year, members will receive a newsletter, use of the facility for small receptions or parties, and admission to “meet the artist” events to be held throughout the year.
