Recreation center group donates money to the Castle Pines North Foundation

By Carin R. Kirkegaard

In September, the local grassroots group, the Castle Pines Recreation Center group, formally dissolved and donated more than $1,000 to the Castle Pines North Foundation (CPNF).

“We are grateful to have the donation and as yet have made no plans for where the money will be used,” said Tom Weldon, founding member of the CPNF.

“While the goal of our group was specifically to advocate bringing a recreational facility to Castle Pines North (CPN), we realize that several economic, developmental and political forces currently discourage that reality,” said Sally Wagner, local resident and founder of the recreation center group. “We hope that the future may allow the idea of a recreation center to viably surface again,” Wagner continued.

The recreation center group was founded in 2006 and in the spring of 2007 the group commissioned a survey that found 81 percent of the residents living in CPN in favor of a recreation center. Now, more than three years later, there still hasn’t been any progress made towards a recreation center reality.

“We are pleased that you are furthering the mission of bettering our community by expanding its recreational offerings and public amenities,” commented Wagner on the efforts of the CPNF.

The CPNF was created nearly 13 years ago as a way to provide a tax deductible avenue for those gifting land, money as well as other donations towards the growth and betterment of current and future parks in CPN.
