Nearley 85 golfers joined in June to play 18 holes of golf at the prestigious Sanctuary private golf course in Castle Pines.

The annual charity event, presented by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and RE/MAX International, raised nearly $50,000 to benefit the Fallen Officer Fund, Youth Education and Safety programs in schools, the Community Safety Volunteer program, and the Explorer Post 10-4 Scholarship program.

“The ongoing generosity of the community has made it possible for our tournaments to raise over $518,000 since 1998 for worthwhile not-for-profit Douglas County youth and community service organizations,” stated Douglas County Public Information Officer Cocha Heyden.

The Shootout at Sanctuary was just one of 24 charity golf events planned at Sanctuary for 2010. In addition to the golf tournaments, Sanctuary is host to some of the most spectacular weddings on the front range, booking on average 50-75 weddings per year.

Sanctuary co-founder, Dave Linegar, built the golf course as a private refuge and a place to play golf. According to General Manage Rudy Zupetz, “They [Mr. & Mrs. Linegar] use the golf course as a resource for the community to raise significant money.” Zupetz said the community has been very good to the Linegar’s and, “this is just one of the very creative ways in which they give back.”

The Sanctaury property is surrounded by 12,000 + acres of dedicated open space. When the golf course opened in 1997, Golf Digest voted it Best New Private Course, and it has consistantly ranked on the top 100 list of golf courses in the Unites States.
