Traffic Issues for American Academy

Information provided by the City of Castle Pines North

The city recently implemented several measures designed to address traffic congestion and safety issues at the southern end of Monarch Boulevard.
Citizens in HOA 1, HOA 2 and Noble Ridge have expressed concerns about the dead-end area, which serves as a drop off and pickup location for American Academy students.

The city has been working with citizens, school officials and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) to develop solutions to relieve the congestion and improve safety for students.

Based on those discussions, public works crews have installed temporary barricades at the intersection of Monarch Boulevard and Shoreham Circle to provide a vehicle-free, pedestrian-safe area for students to walk.

Crews also installed new crosswalks across Monarch Boulevard and Yorkshire Drive and most recently installed “no parking, stopping or standing” signs along the south side of Monarch Boulevard from Shoreham Circle about 300 feet west to the trail connection.

The DCSO has been available to assist parents in understanding where they can safely park and wait for their children as well as maintain traffic circulation in and out of this area. Public works will be working with the city manager, community development, DCSO and the Douglas County School District on creating additional solutions to improve traffic flow, alleviate congestion, and provide a safe and secure environment for students and surrounding neighborhoods.
