Aquatic and wellness center a possibility in Lone Tree

by Patte Smith

A state-of-the-art aquatic and wellness facility is one of the newest projects being considered by The City of Lone Tree. Working in collaboration with HealthONE’s Sky Ridge Medical Center and the Colorado STARs swim program, the city is researching all aspects of a public and private partnership for the planning and construction of the Colorado Swim Center.

The city is enthusiastic about the project, not only from an economic standpoint, but for the innovative and unique features the center could offer. “Our findings, so far, indicate that there is a lot of demand for this type of facility,” emphasizes Assistant City Manager Seth Hoffman. “This is not an ordinary recreational swimming pool. It is a campus that includes a competitive swimming and diving pool, therapy tanks, rehabilitation center and a large medical facility.”

The site of the proposed 70,000 square-foot swim center and 75,000 square-foot medical building is on 11 acres located between the Sky Ridge Medical Center, the Lone Tree Recreation Center, and the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine.

If the Colorado Swim Center becomes a reality, it is possible that athletes from all over the world could come to train in the high-altitude pool. The community would also be able to take advantage of the facility with aquatic training, swim lessons, swim analysis services, health and wellness programs, aquatic rehabilitation therapy, and aquatic exercise programs.

“Right now we are doing our due diligence and looking at all aspects of the project and financing it,” stated Hoffman. “We are shooting to start discussions in early December with the Lone Tree City Council.”
