Back on the bike for June Colorado Bike Month

By Kathy Dunker

Get out your bikes and air up the tires! June is
Colorado’s official Bike Month with the highlight being Bike to Work
Day. Wednesday, June 22, is this year’s Bike to Work Day, and employees
are encouraged to leave their cars at home and enjoy a nice bike ride to
work.

The idea behind Bike Month is to celebrate bicycling for
transportation, fun and health. At the same time, Colorado joins a
nationwide effort to encourage cycling novices and enthusiasts to
experience the fun of safely biking to work, school, errands and, of
course, recreation.

According to the Bike Month website, “The
number of Bike to Work Day participants has risen steadily since 1995.
Due to the popularity of bicycling in Colorado, that trend is expected
to continue this year.”

The Colorado Department of Transportation
is sponsoring the event and also provides maps and safety tips on their
website. To find out more, visit
www.coloradodot.info/programs/bikeped/colorado-bike-month. In addition, a
regional Bike to Work corporate competition will take place between
Colorado metro areas on June 22. To register, visit
