Lutheran High School Parker (LHSP) is on the rise, and recent graduate Colt Olson is a prime example of the leaders it is producing. Olson, a resident in the City of Castle Pines, graduated from the private Parker high school in May and has signed to play college baseball at Montana State University – Billings this fall. He plans to major in psychology.

“This may come as a surprise to some people who knew Colt when he was an undersized, quiet youth football and baseball player in the DC Dolphin organization, but he is a great example of someone who has worked hard and stayed the course,” stated proud mom Marla Olson. “It has been so wonderful to see him and his friends from Castle Pines North grow and mature as athletes and young men. We are very blessed to live in a community with so much to offer and we hope that everyone shares in the excitement of Colt receiving an athletic scholarship,” she continued.

Olson was very active at LHSP, competing in football, basketball, track and baseball, as well as excelling in the classroom. Olson is also involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Worship Class, a group of students who lead chapel at LHSP.

Olson’s fiery red hair, combined with his fun-loving personality, makes him fun to be around. His calm demeanor on and off the field contributes to his life of success, especially when he has the ball on the mound. Olson is a role model for younger students at LHSP, especially the young baseball and football players.

Olson received All-Conference nods in his multiple sports. In addition to being named an All-State football player in 2009, Olson received All-Conference status for baseball in 2009 and 2010. Olson helped the LHSP football team to their best finish in school history with a record of 6-4 and a spot in the state playoffs for the first time ever. Olson enjoyed a big season on the football field as an individual, with 39 solo tackles to his name, the second most take downs on the team. Olson was also named All-League for football.

While excelling at all of his high school sports, Olson has especially garnered big-time recognition on the baseball diamond as a left-handed pitcher. He has competed nationally on the 18U Cherry Creek Connie Mack team, as well as playing in an 18U USA Baseball tournament in Florida last summer.

Olson was a key member of the Lions baseball team that finished the year with a record of 15-5. Olson also helped LHSP to a school record 14-game winning streak. In a season shortened by a broken thumb, Olson hit .400 with three home runs in 13 games, including big home runs against league rival Denver Christian and San Tan Foothills (AZ). Olson also pitched his way to a 3-1 mark with a 3.16 ERA.

Olson says he has benefited from the quality education he has received at LHSP, but when asked what the most important thing was that he learned in high school, Olson doesn’t hesitate. “You really need God for everything and He’s in everything,” Olson said.
