For the first time in Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) history, the school’s 56 students performing in the marching band made it to the State semi-finals due to their commendable third place achievement at the Colorado Bandmasters Regional Competition in Grand Junction earlier this fall.

The band proudly took eighth place in the 3A division at the State competition on October 24 with their rendition of “Riverdance” at the Sports Authority Stadium in Parker. School bands from across Colorado in divisions 1-3A competed that day and those that made the top four performed that evening in State finals.

After last year’s performances at the Holiday Bowl half time show in San Diego, leading the Main Street Parade at Disneyland, playing on the USS Midway flight deck, and placing first in their division at the Big Balloon Parade in San Diego, this year’s RCHS band has made finalists in all field shows this fall and earned first place in Class AA at the Colorado Springs Verterans Day Parade on November 5.

Band Director Joel Naegele said, “I was very pleased with the band this year!  They had a strong work ethic, a great sound, and they now know what it takes to be a state qualifying band. I’d also like to thank the parents for their continued support all season long!”

The jazz, concert and symphonic bands at RCHS consistently earn superior and excellent ratings at area festivals as well.  If you’d like to see them perform in person, the jazz band has a concert on December 6 and the concert bands have their performance on December 8, both at 7 pm in the RCHS auditorium.

One of many field shows the RCHS Marching Band performed this fall at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch.
