Reaching out this holiday season

By Patte Smith

The Women’s Crisis & Family Outreach Center (WCFOC) is reaching out to the local community to sponsor families for its 2011 Adopt-a-Family program. “Each year we ask the community to help us provide a nice holiday for our clients, especially the children,” says Renee Forsythe, community outreach coordinator for the center.

The Adopt-a-Family program matches sponsors with client families based on size. Each sponsor then receives a “wish list” from which to purchase gifts for the family. Non-perishable food baskets and gift certificates can also be donated to the families.

In addition to Adopt-A-Family, WCFOC is participating in the Whole Foods Food Drive program that provides food for clients both in and out of shelter. Through a purchasing program at the Whole Foods in Highlands Ranch on south Colorado Boulevard, the food drive program will help to stock the pantry shelves for use throughout the year. Whole Foods will have “gift card/vouchers” at check out stands for $5, $10, $15 amounts for shoppers to purchase.

It is the goal of the Women’s Crisis & Family Outreach Center to assist in ending violence in the lives of all people. Meanwhile the WCFOC strives to help victims and their families through the trauma of domestic violence. The organization counts on the local community to get involved and become aware of the seriousness of domestic violence.

“These programs are a source of happiness, joy and satisfaction for all involved,” emphasizes Forsythe. “With the help of the community they will be a big success.” If you have questions about the programs or are interested in adopting a family this holiday season, contact Heather Orr at 303-688-1094 or e-mail.
