Denver’s traditional leap into spring event, The Cherry Creek Sneak, will take place on Sunday, May 1, beginning at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Steele and Ellsworth. This year’s trek around Cherry Creek will support The Kempe Foundation and its mission to prevent and treat abused and neglected children.

Registration is now open. The chip-timed course includes a 5-mile race; a 3.1-mile (5K) race; a 1.5-mile Sneak Sprint and 1/2-mile kids fun run. Prices from April 1 to April 30 are: $40 for adults 18 and older; $25 for kids ages 17 and younger; $25 for seniors ages 60 and older and $100 for a family of four (two adults and two children). On race day, prices increase by $5 across the board.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Cherry Creek Sneak hopes to raise awareness of child abuse and encourage the community to gain pledges during April while gearing up for the race on May 1. “Last year, we raised over $27,000 in donations and pledges and our goal for 2011 is to raise $75,000,” said Jon Kruljac, The Kempe Foundation board chair. “These donations and pledges help give abused and neglected children a chance at regaining their childhood. We encourage racers and non-racers to help give hope to abused and neglected children.”

Following the races, participants can enjoy vendor booths, live music, a beer garden, an inflatable slide and obstacle course, as well as a kids’ fun zone.

New this year! The Sneak will host a costume contest. Singles or groups – come dressed up and participate in the celebrity judge review in the beer garden following the races at 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded based on quality, quantity, and theme. Offerings include Sports Authority sports pack, SolVista Bike Park lift tickets, one-month membership packages to Pura Vida Fitness and apparel from Competitor.
