Kids Care Clubs, a national organization that works to inspire a spirit of volunteering and service in elementary and middle-school students, is recognizing Timber Trail Elementary (TTE) for its efforts to serve the community by featuring them on the group’s website during the month of October.

Last year, the school raised money to plant a tree in the City of Castle Pines through a spare change drive. The response was so overwhelming, students had enough money to plant a tree and also make a donation to an organization that supports education in Nairobi, Kenya. But the school’s outreach wasn’t limited to Arbor Day; classes at the school adopted needy families last Christmas to provide gifts and food. They collected gently used books for the Crisis Center. They showed their appreciation to the school’s staff through cards and letters during last spring’s Teacher Appreciation Day and collected non-perishable food for the Douglas County Food Bank. This year, the spirit of giving continues and just a few weeks ago, the school’s Move-a-Thon raised money not only for TTE, but for a needy Elementary School in Denver as well. The school also made a banner and presented it to the Castle Pines Fire Department in honor of September 11.

“I think our school was chosen to be featured because of the type of service projects we chose,” said Candy Palazzo, chair of philanthropy for the Timber Trail Education Alliance. “The kids really reached out to the greater community and across the world.”

During the month of October, the school will be featured on the Kids Care Clubs website: www.kidscare.org.
