More than 250 people attended Wellspring Community’s “Evening of Inspiration,” hosted by Cielo at Castle Pines. Guests enjoyed a fine buffet dinner from Tony Rosacci Catering and desserts from Best Buddies Bakery while listening to holiday music provided by Lindy Scialla and Memories Ballroom Dance Band. The heart-warming program included a dance routine by The Jingle Bells Dance Team and Christmas carols sung by The Wellspring Wonders Choir.

This year’s event raised more than $32,000.

Wellspring Community is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to young adults with special needs. Its mission is to “provide ongoing educational and enrichment activities to foster intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual growth; to create specially modified and supported business enterprises where participants can enjoy meaningful, successful employment; and to provide a variety of long-term, supervised residential options.”

According to Wellspring’s founder and Executive Director Mary Lou Fenton, Wellspring began in 2008 with teaching four young women how to bake cookies in Fenton’s kitchen.

This small step has led to a greater vision of creating a work and residential community for adults with special needs so that they will have a place to work, socialize, and engage in educational and enrichment programs. “[Wellspring Community] will be a place to live and be cared for when parents are no longer able to care for their adult children,” explained Fenton.

Only two years later, Wellspring now serves more than 50 young men and women 21 years or older, with some high school age participants as well. Their programs include Work & Enrichment Program, Best Buddies Bakery, Wellspring Wonders Choir, Jingle Bells Dance Team, and Club 21. The Work & Enrichment Program is held at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Castle Rock.

Participants spend their mornings being trained in every aspect of baking, packaging, marketing, and selling their products. Their afternoons are spent enjoying enrichment classes such as art, dance, fitness, water aerobics, self-defense, beading, and sewing.

Best Buddies Bakery works out of Sweet Nothings Bakery in Castle Rock and New Hope Presbyterian Church. Club 21 is a social/recreation club offering karaoke, skits, dances, games, and partie. It is hosted by Castle Oaks Covenant Church and meets at The Outlets in Castle Rock.
