2012-2013 contract negotiations heat up between DCSD and teachers

By Elizabeth Wood West

According to Douglas County School District’s (District) spokesperson, Randy Barber, letters of understanding have been sent out to all District teachers in advance of the upcoming 2012-2013 contracts.

Representatives from the District and the Douglas County Federation of Teachers are currently engaged in annual collective bargaining negotiations. The Castle Pines Connection has received several inquiries and comments from concerned readers, as well as some of the parties involved, with regard to the ongoing contract negotiations. The public is welcome to attend these negotiations; however, the District’s website advises that the public may observe, but not participate.

In an effort to promote clear communication, transparency, and an accurate handling of the facts, we are directing our readers to two of the District’s websites. To find out more about the 2012-2013 District’s and teachers’ contract negotiations, including public meeting agendas, dates and times, and locations, visit www.dcsdk12.org/opennegotiations.
