A place for all ages; Senior’s club accepting new members

By Chris Bonham

Castle Pines is a terrific place to live because there is something for everyone of all ages. An organization that is contributing to the all-inclusiveness of the senior community at large is the Highlands Ranch Senior Club.

An organization built on encouraging people in the community ages fifty and older to network and spend time with each other, the club offers many events and fun ways for seniors to connect. Interested seniors do not have to live in Highlands Ranch. In fact, there are many folks that are a part of this organization that come from all over Douglas County.

The “main event” for the club is a monthly luncheon, where all the club’s members get together at the Southridge Recreation Center in Highlands Ranch for a couple of hours to enjoy each other’s company while dining.

Among the other events offered by the club are card and board games, hiking, a bowling league, scavenger hunts, bingo, and a book club. Most of these events are either held at Southridge, or at one of the club’s sponsor businesses.

Currently, there are more than 400 seniors participating in the various programs offered by the club. The club also boasts 195 members, and that number is growing. “Our people are having a lot of fun,” said Ron Winter, the president of the senior club’s board of directors.

Membership for the senior club costs a mere $10 a year, or, for those who simply want to participate in select events, participation in single events or programs is priced at $1.

One thing that allows the club to keep participation costs down is the partnership and support of several local sponsors. And, like the number of seniors participating in the club, this list of businesses and organizations is constantly growing. The club is actively seeking additional local sponsors for events and programs, and any support is welcome.

The Highlands Ranch Senior Club is one of the many organizations in the local community that is seeking to protect, foster, and promote the well-being of our all-inclusive, warm attitude towards each other. For more information on the senior club, visit www.HRCAonline.org.
