The fourth annual Buffalo Ridge Stampede & Carnival, held on Friday, August 24, was full of fun, laughter, wet teachers, and new friendships in the making. More than 450 students and neighborhood friends filled the lawn at Buffalo Ridge Elementary School (BRE) for this back-to-school tradition.

Returning students and new students alike had the chance to get into the swing of the school year, enjoying popular carnival events like the cake-walk, Velcro wall, obstacle course, mechanical bull ride, and the highly-anticipated teacher dunk tank.

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and South Metro Fire District were on hand offering information about K-9 units and fire trucks, respectively. Temporary tattoos were granted to all those who waited in line.

The event also featured typical carnival eats like cotton candy and sno-cones and included pizza sold by Little Italy. The fifth grade BRE Dream Team hosted Alex’s Lemonade Stand to benefit childhood cancer research.

The carnival was possible thanks to many volunteers. From managing the entire event to designing posters and baking cake-walk treats, supervising attractions and twisting up cotton candy, it is a worthy production paid out in oodles of happy faces and new friendships.
