Treats and sweets are popular with students at DCS Montessori Charter School anytime, but when it’s for a good cause they come out and support their community one hundred percent.

On Friday, November 9, Karen Aschenbrenner’s upper elementary class held a bake sale to raise the funds needed to provide traditional Thanksgiving dinners for three families in need in our community. Parents of students in the classroom provided all kinds of baked goodies, and many of the customers (DCS Montessori students and staff) donated their change after making purchases.

This activity helped the students in many academic areas by working together on a menu and a budget to make this project a reality. Students decorated boxes, shopped for ingredients, and made deliveries to families in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The sale raised more than $500. The students plan to use the extra money to fund other worthy causes, including support for Hurricane Sandy victims. Thank you to the school and the community for supporting this important endeavor.
