There will be plenty of wagging tails and wet noses at the Denver Dumb Friend League’s (DDL) Furry Scurry on Saturday, May 5, at 9 a.m. More than 12,000 people and 5,000 canines are expected for this 19th annual doggie celebration held at Denver’s Washington Park.

The two-mile dog and owner fun walk hopes to raise $1 million dollars to help thousands of homeless pets. DDL’s shelters in Denver on Quebec Street near Evans Avenue and right here in Castle Rock, The Buddy Center, play temporary home to dozens of dogs, cats, and other animals.

We cannot achieve our fundraising goal without the community’s support,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO of the Dumb Friends League. “It’s a great way to celebrate the human-animal bond, while helping provide services for more pets and people in Denver and surrounding areas.”

After the scurry, there will be “best of” contests for look-alike pet/owner duos, pet kissers, tail waggers and doggie tricksters. Participants can also walk the Flealess Market for merchandise and services and enjoy refreshments and demonstrations.

Sign up individually, start a team, or join a team. The cost is $50 each for walkers or “Lazy Dogs” or “Cat Nappers” who choose to sleep rather than walk. Participants will receive a limited edition Furry Scurry logo shirt. In addition to registering, participants are encouraged to collect pledges from friends, family, and co-workers to make this not only a fun event, but also a celebration for good cause.

Register online, by mail, or in person at the Quebec Street shelter or at the Buddy Center. For more information, visit ddfl.org.
