Buffalo Ridge Elementary (BRE) will host the school’s annual Rock Slide Fun Run on Saturday, October 6, beginning at 9 a.m. The race will include both a 5K run and a 1-mile run/walk. In the weeks leading up to the event, many students will take part in Wednesday morning training sessions before school to get pumped up for the race.

Ronda Gutierrez, physical education teacher at BRE, loves the Rock Slide because it promotes health and wellness in the Buffalo Ridge community. “Students, staff, and families look forward to it every year!” she notes.

Neighbors are encouraged to come out and support the school by cheering for students as they race around the Castle Pines neighborhood. Be on the lookout and help keep participants safe during the race, which will take place on the following routes.

1-mile loop: Campden Place / Shoreham Drive / Keech Way / Monarch Boulevard / Tenby Way / Campden Place.

5K loop: Campden Place / Shoreham Drive / Claire Drive / Yorkshire Drive / Monarch Blvd. / Shoreham Circle / Monarch Boulevard / Oxford Drive / Brixham Circle / Oxford Drive / Shoreham Drive / Campden Place.

“It is important for students at BRE, and throughout our community, to realize you can have fun while you exercise whether you are playing soccer, football, riding your bike or running in a fun run.  It doesn’t matter what kind of exercise you do, as long as you get up and do it!” said Paige Taylor, Rock Slide chairperson.

Students, families and teachers will come out in force, many decorated in spirit-raising outfits and hairstyles. After the race, participants will enjoy a yummy and healthy yogurt and oatmeal breakfast bar catered by the Douglas County Educational Foundation (DCEF). They will also celebrate the kick-off to the school’s fall book fair, which will run though October 11.

Buffalo Ridge Elementary School is located at 7075 N. Shoreham Drive in Castle Pines. For more information, visit http://schools.dcsdk12.org/bre.
