Gift beyond a present

Gone are the days of decking the halls with boughs of holly and asking for a bit of figgy pudding. Today, Christmas has become, in many places, about consumerism. What we can get. What we can give. But one Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) student is making a difference by going beyond his circle of family and friends to reach out to those who did not have the opportunity to give or get this Christmas.
Isaac Farias, a junior at RCHS and the youth worship leader for Solid Life Church in Castle Pines, held a toy drive at his school for the children of Warren Village. Warren Village is a place in Denver where homeless single parents can raise a family with a roof over their heads, while being given the chance to go to school and/or work full-time. Joined by members of Solid Life, Farias took the toys and distributed them to kids at Warren Village on December 13.
In addition to the toys, Farias and his group did some caroling for the surprised and overjoyed families. This is the group’s third year visiting the residents of Warren Village. “Growing up in Castle Pines and Parker, we all have everything we want,” explained Farias. “Then there’s kids five miles away who don’t have anything. We provide gifts and carol so they can actually feel some Christmas cheer.”
Farias hopes that others, especially teens, will follow his example of reaching out and use it in their own lives. “Just by the caroling and keeping on donating to the toy drive, school morale and morale over the Christmas season was expanded and heightened,” he said.
