Incoming sixth grade students at Rocky heights Middle School (RHMS) have the opportunity to participate in the Nighthawk Early Flight program offered by the school on July 31, August 1 and 2. The school has extended the sign-up deadline to July 16. Additionally, a Parent Boot Camp is being offered.

Nighthawk Early Flight is a program designed specifically for incoming sixth grade students to make their transition to their new school and to the middle school experience a positive one.

The three day, half-day program familiarizes students with the layout of the school, allows them to meet new friends and many of the staff members, and gives them tools and strategies to make their middle school years a success.

“Early Flight was so much fun and it made me feel comfortable about my new school before school even started!” remarked a student who participated in the program last year.

The transition from elementary to middle school can be an overwhelming yet exciting time for students and parents alike. In addition to Early Flight for students, RHMS is offering a Parent Boot Camp on August 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the parents of incoming sixth grade students. The camp will familiarize parents with a typical day at RHMS, and provide information on the various school policies and procedures.

Early Flight registration forms are available at the school or on the school website. These forms and the $60 fee may be dropped off at RHMS until July 16. Morning and afternoon sessions are still available. Parent Boot Camp is free of charge, and to register please e-mail Kate Egan, kate.egan@dcsdk12.org
