So you think you can dance? Well, Josh Dwyre, resident of Daniels Gate does; and he certainly can! Dwyre, in his senior year at Regis, has been dancing since he could walk, started lessons at the age of eight, and has an extensive background in ballet.

Dwyre has been the lead male dancer in numerous productions through the Michelle Latimer Dance Academy in Denver. In addition, Dwyre was featured last month in Develo Magazine, which is a Denver publication featuring up-and-coming artists.

Dwyre’s love for dance has gotten him many scholarships to attend and participate in competitions during the past few years. He and his partner, Danielle Beeman, were awarded the overall Regional Senior Performance at the International Dance Challenge (IDC). In addition, Dwyre was awarded Senior Male Solo Champion and was also chosen to represent the IDC as a dance model for the 2011/2012 season.

Last month found Dwyre in the thick of college auditions. Dwyre is not only applying to the colleges themselves, but he also applies to the dance program at each college. Consequently, Dwyre must be accepted twice and must await two acceptance letters from each school.

Dwyre applied to California Institute of the Arts, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Iowa, University of Arizona, Purchase College State University of New York (SUNY), Fordham University, and Marymount Manhattan.

Dwyre auditioned for the University of Iowa in October and the University of Arizona in December and was accepted to both schools and both dance programs. He has also been accepted to the Marymount Manhattan College for both the dance program and the college. January found Dwyre in Baltimore for SUNY, and in New York for Fordham University, Alvin Ailey Conservatory of Dance.

While visiting the east coast schools Marymount, Fordham, and SUNY, Dwyre fell in love with each of these schools. Says Dwyre, “The Auditions were all very nerve racking, and I am happy that they are finished! I have so much to look forward to and a big decision to make, which will not be an easy one.”
