The day just got better at DCSM

On October 2, DCS Montessori (DCSM) middle school teacher Michael Catalano was the recipient of OfficeMax’s “A Day Made Better” award. Completely surprised by the honor, Catalano received a certificate, a new leather desk chair, and a box of school and office supplies valued at more than $1,000 for his classroom. In addition, two members of the OfficeMax presentation team also brought six more large boxes of school and office supplies for the entire school!
Teachers spend approximately $1,000 out of their own pockets each year to offset school budget shortfalls and ensure that their students have the necessary classroom resources for learning. OfficeMax’s “A Day Made Better” program, in partnership with AdoptAClassroom, aims to help end the need for teacher-funded classrooms.
Catalano was nominated by the DCSM head of school, Jeromy Johnson, for this prestigious honor based on his untiring efforts for nearly three years to launch the DCSM Middle School. This year saw the beginning of the school’s first seventh grade class with eighth grade making its debut in the 2013/2014 school year.
Since 2007, OfficeMax’s programs have funded more than 4,500 classrooms with more than $4.5 million in school supplies, and helped secure funding for more than 66,000 classrooms through donations.
