The eagle has landed

Submitted by DC Veterans Monument Foundation

William Hueg, designer and sculptor, holds the main body of the eagle that will be the most striking point of the Douglas County Veterans Monument. Bill delivered the clay model on July 12 for the next step in the process, making the molds for the foundry. In addition to this eagle, the entire clay version of the monument is here in Colorado.

This version is in several parts, the flag, the rendition of the globe which will be below the flag, and of course, all the parts of the eagle. The wing span of the finished bird will be about eight feet.

The mold making process will take a couple of weeks. When finished and approved, the foundry process begins. The bronze will be poured during August. Final assembly is expected in September with installation in October and the formal dedication Veterans Day, November 11, 2012.

The Veterans Monument Foundation is still raising funds. A variety of events are scheduled in the next months. To keep up with the monument process and the events for the Foundation, visit www.dcvmf.org
