Trader Joe’s makes slow progress in move to Colorado

Right now, a trip to specialty grocer Trader Joe’s will cost you at least six hours and a few tanks of gas. For Denver-area shoppers, a drive to Santa Fe, New Mexico, is the closest option if you want to pick up famous TJ’s staples like Joe Joe’s cookies or a bottle of “Two Buck Chuck,” the Charles Shaw wine the store is famous for.
Though it was announced in January that the store would be coming to the metro area, progress has been slow. A Trader Joe’s in Salt Lake City, Utah, was announced in June and opened last month, while stores in Denver and Boulder won’t open until the third quarter of 2013.
Despite the slow going, Castle Pines residents are still looking forward to being able to shop at the store in a location fairly close to home. Stores are currently planned in Boulder in the 29th Street Mall and in Denver at Eighth Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.
“I first started shopping at Trader Joe’s when I lived in California,” said Castle Pines resident Veronica Fratta. “I love their interesting mix of well-priced products from all over and was very disappointed to learn they weren’t in Colorado when I moved here. You can imagine how excited I was to learn we will soon have a store within a half-hour of Castle Pines! I will definitely be making frequent trips.”
