The upcoming Sassy Soiree at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Friday, September 13 with be the tenth year of the exciting event. The soiree is a fabulous combination of silent auction, fashion show, and luncheon all in one – and all for a great cause! The event proceeds benefit the emergency services provided by the Douglas/ Elbert County Task Force.

When the call for models was made for the inaugural event ten years ago, the goal was to find influential women from the community with sass and attitude. One model and former Mrs. Senior Colorado, Bella DiVita, has participated in the fashion show every year since its inception. At the time, DiVita was a spry 78 and was one of the first to sign up.

Says event co-chair Nani Lindig, “Bella is very uninhibited, as you will see.  We never know what she’ll do onstage, but so many come just to see her and what will happen.  She’s a real crowd pleaser! The first year she stopped the crowd dead in their tracks. Hence, ‘sassitude’ was born!” DiVita will be back at it strutting her stuff this year at an amazing 89 years old.

DiVita’s debut included her teetering out onto the runway wearing a pair of very high-heeled pink marabou slippers and a turquoise silk kimono with an orange dragon embroidered on the back. With her back to the announcers, DiVita flung open her robe, causing a collective gasp then cheers from the crowd as she revealed her nude body suit. Lindig remembers, “Since that auspicious beginning, Bella has been the crowd favorite at every Sassy Soiree!”

New to the Soiree modeling scene this year are Castle Pines Village resident and President of the Castle Pines Rotary Club, Elaine Love, as well as Nicole Moses, manager of the Castle Pines UPS Store and member of the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Moses remarked, “I’ve heard that this is one blast of an event to attend and to be a part of! I’ve always wanted to walk the runway. What a wonderful opportunity to showcase my style and personality, all while working for a great cause. I’m looking forward to volunteering in a community I truly admire, and feel privileged working in! It’s an honor, really.”
