The 12U Armour baseball team, playing its fourth season together, proudly won back-to-back Colorado State Championships on July 7 and on July 14. The team ended its season at a tournament in Cooperstown Dreams Park in Cooperstown, New York where they went on to win the exciting championship game 9-8 against the Clearwater, Florida Yankees.

Castle Pines residents Bryce Schmuhl from KnightsBridge, Jake Porter from Hidden Pointe, and Lance Opp from Forest Park have been part of this team since they were in 9U. The three boys all attend Rocky Heights Middle School. To make it to the championship game, the Armour team defeated teams from Michigan, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, California, New York and Texas.

There were 104 teams in the tournament at Cooperstown. Armour went undefeated, playing 11 games between July 26 and August 1.  Team member Schmuhl commented, “When I walked on the championship field at Cooperstown, I felt like a big leaguer!”

The final game was played on Thursday night, August 1 at Little Majors Stadium in Cooperstown Dreams Park. The stadium was packed with participants from the tournament and their families.  The championship teams were introduced prior to the game and circled the stadium greeting all of the fans.

It was an action-packed game with a close score. In spite of rain in the fifth inning, the game continued. Armour prevailed in the sixth inning with the final score of 9-8. The resident players did their team proud, each getting an RBI in the final game. Porter also had a solo homerun.

A little rain didn’t stop the Armour team as they brought home the title from Cooperstown Dreams Park last month.
