After several months of operating without a city manager, the Castle Pines City Council selected Don Van Wormer to fill the vacancy.

In the role as city manager, Van Wormer will be responsible for the general day-to-day supervision and management of the city and is slated to begin by October 7.

Van Wormer has served government entities for more than 20 years and has been the city manager for Monte Vista, Colorado since 2004. He is a member of the International City/County Management Association and the Colorado City and County Management Association. He recently retired from the Colorado Municipal League Board of Directors in June, after serving more than five years.

“After a thorough review process, we are pleased to select a Coloradoan with extensive city and county management experience. We are excited to include Don as part of our team here in Castle Pines,” said Mayor Jeffrey Huff. “We look forward to his fresh perspective in managing our city based on his knowledge from working with other Colorado counties and municipalities.”

Prior to his city manager position in Monte Vista, Van Wormer was the town manager in Kremmling, Colorado and the county administrator in Hinsdale County, Colorado. He has also worked as a policy analyst in Mesa County, Colorado and in various other management positions. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Mesa State College.

“The City of Castle Pines is in a unique position as a newer city. Its future remains wide open, and I am honored to take part in charting that path along with the city council, mayor and residents,” said Van Wormer. “This is a fantastic community that is widely recognized throughout the country as a great place to live. I hope to build on the progress made by this community and its leadership.”
