Family 9Health Fair debuts for first time in Douglas County

By Elizabeth Wood West

Thanks to Rotary Clubs of Douglas County (including Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Parker, and Cherry Creek Valley) and Castle Rock Adventist Health Campus (CRAHC), area residents will have the opportunity to attend the first Family 9Health Fair in Douglas County. The Family 9Health Fair is for both adults and children, and will be held on Sunday, September 29, from 7 a.m. to noon at Castle Rock Adventist Hospital, 2350 Meadows Boulevard in Castle Rock.

Family 9Health Fair is Colorado’s largest non-profit, volunteer-driven health fair program. According to Patricia Fiske, Rotary Club of Castle Pines spokesperson, nearly 100 Rotarians will assist CRAHC medical staff by handling all the non-medical duties including event set-up, managing volunteers and attendees, and tear-down.

“The 9Health Fair has the expertise to run the fair, CRAHC has a beautiful new facility for the fair, and the Rotary Clubs of Douglas County have the desire to help as many families as possible,” Fiske said.

CRAHC’s Marketing Director Christine Alexander said, “Sure, Castle Rock Adventist Hospital is here to fix broken bones, treat heart problems, and bring babies into the world. But we also are a member of the community, with a vested interest in the success and health of our neighbors. That’s why we are sponsoring and inviting families to participate in the Family 9Health Fair.”

The Family 9Health Fair will offer dozens of health screenings, blood tests, and education services associated with some of today’s most critical health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, mental health, and more.

Children’s screenings include hearing, vision, autism, and other developmental assessments. Many of the screenings and tests are free and/or low cost.

Douglas County Community of Care Network is providing a grant to sponsor the screenings and tests for Douglas County families whose income is below the poverty level. This entity is a collaborative group of government agencies, local non-profits, faith-based organizations, and service providers that work together to address issues of poverty and homelessness in Douglas County.
