It is time to apply for the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority citizen academy

The South Metro Fire Rescue Authority is accepting applications for its citizen academy. The academy will run from April 10 through May 29 on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The deadline to apply for this opportunity is March 4.
This will be the fourth year that the academy has been offered. “I invite anyone who wants to learn more about emergency services to come out and join us for the academy,” said Fire Chief Daniel Qualman. Citizens who have participated in the academy have found it to be a rewarding experience.
“Completing the 2012 citizen’s academy was a truly exceptional experience,” said Xcel Energy investigator Mario Lopez. “I value the training and education I received during the eight-week program and have applied it during my ongoing fire investigation work. I highly recommend the academy to any citizen, industry professional, or public official wishing to gain a first-hand view of the value, professionalism and commitment revealed within South Metro Fire District’s operation.”
Participants of the academy will learn the basics of firefighting and get the opportunity to don fire gear and go into the burn building. They also will use extrication tools to simulate getting a victim out of a car involved in an accident. In addition, participants will become certified in CPR and learn about fire investigations.
The academy is open to anyone 18 years or older who lives or works in the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority jusidiction: serving Castle Pines, Centennial, Cherry Hills Village, Foxfield, Greenwood Village, Lone Tree, Louviers, Parker, and portions of unincorporated Arapahoe and Douglas counties.
