Local physician believes good health and aging can go hand in hand

What started as a handout for his patients turned into an informative and interesting book by Dr. Bill Lee. Lee believes that all adults have the ability to take charge of their wellness and aging by practicing good health.

Dr. Bill Lee, a resident of Castle Pines Village, is part of a revolutionary movement in medicine that promotes age management. Lee’s enthusiasm for successfully navigating the aging process is evident in his new book, “Over 50 feeling 30.” The book is a testament to the modern understanding of functional medicine, which promotes searching for the root cause of a health problem, and solving the problem through proper nutrition, exercise, stress management, and bioidentical hormone balance.

Lee is a board certified OB/GYN who retired from obstetrics in 2008 to focus on gynecology and age management. Lee’s interest in this field began when his youngest son was diagnosed with severe autism. Traditional medicine offered little for him, and Lee began pursuing alternative treatments. His exploration of naturopathic alternatives led him to interactions with a variety of specialists and ultimately to lectures on functional medicine and age management.

“The U.S. has the best disease treatment system in the world,” remarked Lee. “However we have the worst preventative system in the world.” Lee feels strongly that the foods that we ingest have a direct impact on how our bodies operate.

Lee’s practice is open to both men and women and as he explains in his book, he is a strong advocate for bioidentical hormones, which are hormones that are identical in molecular structure to the hormones women and men make in their bodies. ”Women have been misinformed, and men have been uninformed,” he stated.  “Hormones can be safe if they are bioidentical and delivered and dosed properly.  In fact, lack of hormones leads to chronic degenerative diseases.”

In his book, Lee outlines the twelve causes of aging and how to minimize them. He is passionate about educating the public about aging in a healthy way in order to avoid the chronic illnesses that our society has become accustomed to. “If everything is working well, it doesn’t matter how old you are,” Lee remarked. “I feel it’s my job to fill people in. If they know and understand, they will change their lifestyle.”
