On June 8, the Oakland OKs 4-H Club will be hosting its third annual Fun Shoot and Benefit at Sterling Ranch in Sedalia. Participants will be able to challenge themselves using several different firearms, including .22 rifles, shotguns, and air rifles. Archery and tomahawk throwing will also be offered as a part of the event.

Students will learn how to properly use a variety of firearms, as well as get a chance to become educated about 4-H’s Shooting Sports program. Club President John Holst believes that the event will give young shooters “opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth, and conservation ethics.”

The shoot is designed to not only promote and encourage shooting sports among youth, but also to support a local charity at the same time. This year, half of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Sergeant Matthew Parker and Homes For Our Troops. Homes For Our Troops provides highly personalized homes to injured veterans, such as Sergeant Parker, at no charge. The other half of the proceeds from the shoot will go back into funding the club’s shooting sports program.

Pricing for the shoot is inexpensive, as many local businesses help to cover the cost of the event. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.
