Roadwork means lane closures on Meadows Parkway this summer

Information provided by the Town of Castle Rock

Two road projects are coming to the Meadows Parkway corridor this spring and summer, meaning delays and some lane closures on Meadows Parkway and Prairie Hawk Drive.

Because of new businesses opening near Meadows Parkway and Prairie Hawk Drive, Castle Rock Development Co. will be modifying medians along Meadows Parkway at Limelight Avenue and along Prairie Hawk Drive south of Meadows Parkway. The work includes constructing new median curbs, replacing pavement and restriping the lanes within the construction area.

The work will add new turn lanes that will allow access to the new businesses, which will open later this year. These improvements are also necessary to accommodate traffic growth in this area.

Work on Prairie Hawk Drive began in mid-May, but lane closures on Meadows Parkway aren’t expected until late June, when that work begins.

During construction on Prairie Hawk Drive, the northbound left-turn lane on Prairie Hawk Drive will be closed, but the northbound straight and right-turn lanes on Prairie Hawk will remain open. Once complete, there will be two left-turn lanes for northbound Prairie Hawk at Meadows Parkway; two northbound through lanes; and a separate right-turn lane. Work here is expected to last four-to-five weeks. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Once the Prairie Hawk Drive work is complete, crews will start work on Meadows Parkway. In order to provide a new right-turn lane for eastbound traffic to turn onto Limelight Avenue (and access new businesses there), the eastbound lanes must be shifted north.

This work will require construction of a new eastbound left-turn lane in the median. It will also require that Meadows Parkway be widened east of the Limelight intersection. The westbound left-turn lane at Limelight Avenue will be realigned to better match the new left-turn lane on the other side of the intersection.

This work may require lane closures of both the eastbound and westbound lanes adjacent to the median. Work here is expected to last four-to-five weeks, and construction hours will depend on lane closures. Lanes will only be closed between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., to avoid rush hours. At this time, the contractor does not expect road closures on Saturdays. However, if weather delays occur, to complete the project, Saturday hours may be necessary.

During this construction, motorists may want to choose Coachline Road to Wolfensberger Road or Plum Creek Parkway as an alternate route.
