Tasty treats for a good cause

Castle Pines resident Ranee Wilson is passionate about helping area schools and providing wholesome snacks to the students at those schools. After working as a volunteer parent at the DCS Montessori School in Castle Pines for several years, Wilson saw the need for a way to combine those passions. Last school year, she launched her company, called Smart Treats, which provides quick and easy one-day fundraising for schools and other organizations.

“This is what I think of as a ‘filler’ fundraiser,” said Wilson. “Not a school’s main fundraiser for the year, but a way to give students a personalized treat while also raising money for the school. Last year at DCS Montessori, this fundraiser raised nearly $600 to benefit the library.”

Schools can order treats in specific shapes to fit a theme or holiday celebration – hearts for Valentine’s Day or apples for teacher appreciation, for instance. Wilson provides easy online ordering and parents placing orders have the option of including a personalized message to their child.

“I’m really proud of the treats we’ve created,” said Wilson. “This is still a sweet, but we use healthy ingredients like organic eggs and hormone-free butter. There are no artificial dyes or ingredients – even the sprinkles are made with natural coloring.”

Wilson’s business is still new, and right now she’s sticking with cookies – sugar and chocolate chip – but hopes to expand to other goodies like brownies in the future.

“I love this business because I can create something that makes a child happy,” said Wilson. “Kids are always excited when they see what I’ve made.”

Smart Treats specializes in school fundraising and other events like weddings and company parties. For more information about Smart Treats, e-mail info@smarttreatsllc.com or call Ranee Wilson at 720-280-2995.
