Board vacancy for civic-minded history buffs

Information provided by Douglas County

Do you have a head for history and a heart for public service?  If so, the Douglas County Historic Preservation Board may be the perfect place for you to serve.  The nine-member board has an immediate opening for someone who has experience or knowledge in helping to preserve the area’s history and heritage.

The Historic Preservation Board works with County staff to provide numerous programs and activities that help preserve the county’s heritage.  Board members also recommend properties for the county’s landmark program; advise property owners on methods for preserving sites and artifacts; facilitate the collection, cataloging, preservation and interpretation of donated historic artifacts; and work to educate Douglas County residents on historic matters through public outreach.

“If you have an interest in preserving our local history and have a background in planning, architecture, history or archeology, this may be the perfect opportunity to engage in the process of local governance,” said Commissioner and Board Chair Jill Repella.

The ideal applicant must be able to meet the first Wednesday of each month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., be willing to serve a three-year term and have knowledge of local history or historic preservation.

Those interested in serving may fill out an online application (http://www.douglas.co.us/government/commissioners/citizen-advisory-boards-committees-and-commissions/application-for-appointment-for-citizen-advisory-boards/) or print out the application and mail it to: Douglas County Commissioners Office, 100 Third Street, Castle Rock, CO 80104. The deadline to apply is September 14.

For more information, contact the County Commissioners Office at 303-660-7401.
