The City of Castle Pines is making plans and is seeking input from residents to gather ideas and gain a sense of direction.  In 2009, in accordance with state law, the City adopted a comprehensive plan based largely on a similar document from Douglas County.  The City is now ready to develop a more tailored plan, with a clear vision specific to the City of Castle Pines.

On August 1, the City will host an event at the Castle Pines North Community Center from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. aimed at bringing the community together to gather input and ideas from the people who live and work in the community.  Those ideas and input will be incorporated into the Comprehensive Plan, a document that will provide city leaders with a vision and direction to guide development and planning for the next 20 years.

“We need to talk to members of the community to gauge preferences and find out which issues concern them,” said Sam Bishop, community development director for the City of Castle Pines.  “The Comprehensive Plan will provide a framework for the city and will provide guidance.”

The event will be open-house style and open to those who live in or near Castle Pines.  Logan Simpson, a community planning and design firm contracted by the City to formulate the Comprehensive Plan, has already conducted preliminary outreach efforts – including phone calls and in-person interviews.

“As we gather input, we’ll also give participants information about the status quo to see if they feel it’s still working,” said Miriam McGilvray, community planning and character development planner for Logan Simpson.  “We’ll be exploring topics like economic development, housing, land use mix, parks and open space, and transportation.”

In addition to the August event, Logan Simpson will also be gathering information and input online to allow for widespread community participation.

“It’s really important for people to also know that we want this process to be transparent,” said McGilvray.  “In addition to being able to provide input on the website, people will also be able to get information there to stay abreast of what is happening.”

Once input and data are gathered, the Comprehensive Plan will be presented to the City Council for adoption.  Adoption is slated for December of this year.
