Jacqueline Shuler, an accomplished artist and teacher, won first place in the professional division in painting with her original digital painting “Mountain Majesty” at the National Arts Program Front Range art exhibit presented by the Greater Castle Rock Art Guild.

“I couldn’t believe it!” exuberantly stated Shuler.  “Having been an acrylic painter for the last 40 years, I have traded my brushes and palette for a new tool, my Cintiq, a 16” x 20” digital tablet attached to my computer.  I used it to create Mountain Majesty which has the feel of a puzzle with a lot of interlocking pieces, but still has the look of the Rocky Mountains in an exciting array of colors and shapes.  It is a very complex process involving over twenty layers on the Cintiq.  I overlaid and overlapped the layers, changing their relationships several times; playing with the opacity while adding and subtracting special effects in order to create my composition.”

Approximately 165 professional, intermediate, beginner, teen, and youth artists submitted their art to the show.  All are on display at the Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock until November 7.
