The month of November was very special for nine Timber Trail Elementary (TTE) students.  The Highlands Ranch Library hosted the elementary art show, and while there was no particular theme, the show highlighted the exemplary artwork that represented what the students are capable of creating at their individual grade level.

The annual show is a regional show, and only schools that are part of Highlands Ranch feeder schools are included.  TTE was invited to participate because the school feeds into Rock Canyon High School.

Participants included students from kindergarten through fifth grade.  All of the TTE student artwork was created either during the school day or in art teacher Wendy Wilson’s after school art enrichment club.

Artwork was displayed throughout the library, and viewers could browse at their leisure during normal operating hours.  The show was purposely held over the Thanksgiving break so that visiting family would have the opportunity to participate.  For those who were unable to make the show, Wilson put the artwork on her art class blog.

Mediums included crayons, mixed media, markers, watercolor paintings and acrylic painting on canvas.  Fifth grade student and 80108 resident Maya Vora said, “There were many great pieces of art created by students, so it was a great achievement to have my artwork selected.”

“Providing students with an opportunity to show their work in a public venue outside the school building gives them real world experience and provides an authentic audience for their creations,” said Wilson.

Next up for local student artists is the district-wide art show at the end of March, which will include approximately 15 to 20 students from TTE.  Prizes will be awarded, and the show will include middle and high school students from the Castle Pines area as well.
