On Saturday, August 18, Castle Pines Village residents Jana and Fred Bartlit hosted the 17th annual Lulu’s Barkin’ BBQ to benefit homeless pets and horses at the Dumb Friends League.

The event was held at the Harmony Equine Center in Franktown, where 440 guests enjoyed an evening of good food and good music – all for a good cause.

The evening included cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a gourmet barbecue dinner by Chef Tom Perini of Perini Ranch Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap, Texas, silent and live auctions, a chance to mingle with adorable adoptable pets and a private concert by country music legend Alabama.

The event raised more than $800,000 (and counting) to help provide veterinary care, behavior training and other critical services for homeless pets and horses in the Dumb Friends League’s care.

While Alabama was the headliner of Lulu’s Barkin’ BBQ, the star attractions were the pets available for adoption.

Jana and Fred Bartlit are long-time, generous supporters of the Dumb Friends League. The Bartlits continue to make a tremendous difference for homeless pets through Jana’s service as a lifetime member of the board of directors, their ongoing philanthropy and their funding of the Lulu Mobile, a traveling spay/neuter clinic for cats and dogs in underserved communities.
